dragonball-evolution-2008

Mirai Kensaku Gadget Tuusin, Japanese news site related to subculture and ear-catcher things, has recently announced interesting survey results on a game that Japanese people do hope gets made into a Hollywood movie.

The ranking on which they made an official announcement is as follows.

1. Dragon Quest
2. Takeshi no Chosenjo
3. Metal Gear
4. Tetris
5. Spelunker
6. Legend of Zelda
7. MOTHER (Earth Bound)
8. Ace Attorney (Gyakuten Saiban)
9. Portopia Renzoku Satsujin Jiken
10. Grand Theft Auto

But a few days ago I found Japanese web page on which they had released the results of the survey before the official announcement was made. And I knew two items were excluded from the official ranking.

uncut version of the ranking

1. none (there is no need for Hollywood to make a film out of a game)
2. Dragon Quest

7. Legend of Zelda
8. various eroge (hentai games)

25. Devil May Cry
26. Metal Gear Solid
27. Chrono Trigger
28. Katamari Damacy (Lonely Rolling Star)

In this survey the top answer is “Hollywood? No, thanks” lol

01 60,005 K-ON! (けいおん!)
02 22,634 Saki (咲-Saki-)

25 2,127 Konnichiwa Ann -Before Green Gables- (こんにちわ アン)

38 48 Sugar Bunnies Fleur (シュガーバニーズ フルール)
39 20 Higepiyo (ヒゲぴよ)
40 0 Otenba Lulu (おてんばルル)

2ch’s Anime Forum is dominated by otaku or hard-core fans, so there is a big difference in tastes between them and casual anime fans and ordinary people. It seems like ordinary people prefer Konnichiwa Ann(#25) and Mainichi Kaasan(#32) rather than K-ON!, Saki and Queen’s Blade. In the same way, casual fans seem prefer Mecha Mote Iinchou(#26) to otaku-oriented anime. DargonBall Kai can be said to be a complete exception. This show is attracting the attention of all groups.

K-ON! led by a large margin as was widely predicted.

I’m really surprised that Saki is attracting people’s attention so highly, but I welcome their reaction toward Saki because the first episode was unexpectedly amusing and I really like Mahjong. The original manga of Saki contains almost no yuri and romance. To my joy, Gonzo added yuri and ecchi elements to anime. The 1st season of Strike Witches was made by Gonzo’s Fifth Studio, who is the most elite unit among their divisions. Saki appears promising because the Fifth Studio have been making it.

Shin Mazinger can be said it is fighting hard, though episode 1 looks like a promotional video or a long trailer. This show make old anime fans wild with joy.
